The World Series of Poker LogoThe World Series Of Poker Circuit Event started on Thursday, April 4th at Harrah’s in Cherokee. It was an amazing beginning with 872 players in the first event! Harrah’s was scrambling for dealers, and one pit boss who hadn’t dealt in years was recruited. The lines were long to buy-in. It appeared about 200 players were still in line when the tournament had started at noon. The buy-in was $365 and the prize pool was $261,600.
90 players were paid (at the time of writing this article the tournament is not over). Atlanta Poker Club players that we know were in the money are: John Lee, Tom Alves, and Nathan Proctor. They were among the top 90!

If you haven’t played in a casino, in order to register for any poker tournament held in the casino, you must have a Player’s Card for that casino. So get that first thing! Just ask the security person stationed close to the door as you enter where to get one, and they will point you in the right direction. Don’t waste time going upstairs to register first as you can’t without the card.

Harrah’s in Cherokee is the only casino I’ve been in where you have to pay for valet parking. Usually valet parking is free but at Harrah’s Cherokee the charge is $12.00. It is worth it if you are in a hurry!

The poker room where the WSOP is being held is located upstairs. Outside the poker room you will find free snacks of popcorn, cotton candy, and muffins. Located just down the way is a snack bar.

Inside the WSOP event, there were only 2 cocktail waitresses. Bottles of water are free but for anything else there is a charge. The 2 cocktail waitresses were doing a great job for 876 players! Even for free water, you should tip the waitress a dollar.

Take a look at the WSOP CIRCUIT EVENTS in Cherokee. If you click on it and it is says TBA, it is because they are updating the current tournament standings. Just wait a few minutes!

If you haven’t played in a casino, it is a 2 1/2 hour drive and remember to take only the money you can afford to lose! GOOD LUCK!
